Area of a Circle

Of the two "area of a circle" assignments. I would choose the first lesson simply because you are building and using formulas to solve the problem while you are manipulating a circle. It hits the hands on style while keeping the rigor. Which is what is needed in the middle school and high school grades. I actually used this assignment with a middle school enrichment class and it went smoothly. They got a nice refresher on area of a circle and area of a parallelogram, while getting a different view on the topic. It went quite smoothly.
